St. Paul's Letter to the Ephesians

Church of the Virgin Mary, Ephesus, Turkey

Church of The Virgin Mary (Double Church) -- A three-naved basilica was built in the 4th century A.D. on an area 200x30m, which was previously a place used for trading dating from the 2nd century A.D. In 431 A.D. the Third Ecumenical Council and in 449 a bishops meeting took place here. In that council, the dogma of Virgin Mary's being the Mother of God was agreed upon. This great council church was reconstructed several times in the following centuries. The Double Church was derived from teh two small and simple churches in the later ages.
